Creativity…just restating the obvious
I had a little epiphany today. I was in my Playwriting class and we had to write a scene in two minutes and then we had each other perform them. I finished writing my scene and I thought, “Wow, this is so stupid. So obvious. It’s nothing special.” The class read it and then they all started clapping. For some reason they thought that it was special. So, that got me thinking. What is creativity?
Creativity is simply restating the obvious in a way that it hasn’t been done before. Creativity is taking a common subject that we deal with every day and shining a new light on it. Being creative doesn’t mean that you have to make up huge, fantastical worlds that are original. It’s about taking ordinary, every day life and displaying it to the world the way that you see it. And everyone sees the world a little differently. People will appreciate how you do and appreciate your work. The only thing holding us back creatively is ourselves. We’re the ones worried about thinking that we’re too ordinary, that our thoughts are too simple.
That’s a lie.
We need to let our creativity shine and inspire those around us to see the world in a different light.
