I then went to a culture festival; there was some beautiful African rhythum dancing.
Invisible Children
Tonight I had the pleasure of meeting David, an escaped child soldier from northern Uganda. He came to my college today as part of the Invisible Children non-profit organization.
As David spoke it, the pain of his past was clear. “It hasn’t been easy and it will never be easy,” he said. David grew up in Northern Uganda and in 2002, the LRA abducted his entire village, murdering his father. He was seperated from his two brothers, and still today has no idea whether they’re alive or dead. David spent 6 months with the LRA before he finally escaped.
“The greatest thing in life is to never give up in life…I know this now,” David said.
Yes, thanks to their efforts, Uganda is safe from Kony’s LRA. However, the LRA has moved to the Congo and Sudan. The atrocities continue and we still need to do something about it. Invisible Children’s new effort is to bring radio towers into the Congo. Radio will help the citizens stay informed and stay safe.
